Since the band's formation three years ago, the furore of
their subversive mix of feminist manifesto with electronic
sounds and beats erases any doubts. Loud and provocative,
Rhythm King & Her Friends take a stand
against conventional
gender roles and parody the usual
cliches: "What can
I wear today? Choose my pants or shall
I use my dress – everything
looks queer today – I know I
need some vacation from
my boyish closet ..." The trio plays
with samples and
digital equipment with as much ease as
with guitars or megaphones. "The
lithe, angular songs and
megaphone-filtered polemics of the
Berlin-based trio of
politically-charged young women carry
on where the DFA
remix of Le Tigre's "Deceptacon" left
off." (Wire) Their debut
album will come out in April
2004 on Kitty-yo following the
release of a remix EP featuring
remixes by Robots in
Disguise, Ladytron and Stuart Price.
